I see some YouTube tutorials in my future!

Today has been both an entertaining and informative one for me. Happily, I was blessed to be able to enjoy a wonderful lunch with a dear friend this afternoon. It had been much too long since we had been able to get together, so needless to say we had quite a bit to discuss. Recently we have each been lucky enough to find what would be considered nice quality beginner's sewing machines at estate sales, and we've both decided to try our hand at sewing. I have used a sewing machine before, but it has literally been decades, and even then I hadn't really mastered more than the simplest of projects. Our discussion of course turned to just how far we had each progressed with our sewing machines, and I had to confess...I had not even managed to take mine out of the closet yet (bad...I know). If I'm being honest, I was feeling rather intimidated at the thought of having to figure out just how to fill the bobbin and thread the machine. Fortunately, between an online user's manual and several YouTube videos, I somehow managed to achieve both feats and decided to embark on my first project. Needless to say I wasn't about to attempt any grand project, such as sewing myself a new wardrobe, but I did feel I might actually be able to craft some sort of small stuffed item at least. As you can see, I was not quite as successful as I'd hoped with my first project, but it did at least somewhat resemble the picture I had in my head of the finished project (although my hidden seam isn't exactly hidden). While the finished project may not have been everything I imagined, I was still happy I had finally overcome my fear of failure and tried my hand at sewing (plus...I did end up with a pretty nice pin cushion). Spending time in conversation with a dear friend gave me the boost I needed to overcome my apprehension at the thought of finally using my sewing machine, and I must admit...although the end result wasn't perfect, I was perfectly happy with it. Hopefully you too have been encouraged to attempt a project you've been apprehensive about.

Blessings, Candi 💕
