Boy will my head be happy to see my pillow tonight!

It has been an extremely long day for me thanks to the combination of a coughing fit and a barking dog. I awoke sometime close to two thirty this morning experiencing an especially loud and annoying coughing fit. Once said coughing fit had passed I attempted to drop back off to sleep, and I had almost succeeded, when Pogo decided it was absolutely imperative he begin barking as loudly as he possibly could. It's not unusual for Pogo to begin barking (I swear it's his absolute favorite pastime), but the bark I heard this morning was an extremely emphatic bark directed at the patio door. Normally Pogo's bark is directed towards the front window, as that is where the majority of the assaults (passing vehicles, walkers, birds, squirrels, blowing leaves...he barks at them all) to his domain occur. With any hope I had of falling back to sleep dashed I decided I would venture out to the living room to see if there was indeed a valid reason for Pogo's loud and insistent barking. There is a large wooded gully behind our house, and in the past our security camera has captured footage of the neighborhood stray cats, possums, skunks, and even a bobcat making their way ever so leisurely through our yard, so I assumed perhaps one of the above creatures had ventured onto the patio. After turning on the patio lights, it was clearly obvious to me there were indeed none of the aforementioned creatures in our back yard. The true cause of Pogo's agitation was soon discovered as I heard another of the neighborhood dogs (the one who's owner never brings him inside...nor attempts to curb his near constant barking) barking in the distance. Needless to say, once I had convinced Pogo there was indeed no imminent danger to his domain, any thought I may have had about going back to sleep was a distant memory. While Pogo's barking inevitably proves to be for naught, it still brings me a sense of security, and makes my heart feel lighter, knowing the odds of there being an unwelcome nighttime visitor in his domain (a.k.a. our home) are slim to say the least. I hope there is something in your life that provides you a sense of security and makes your heart feel lighter too.

Blessings, Candi 💕
