Happy Mothers Day!

I heard it said today that Mothers Day is more widely celebrated than Fathers Day, but the reason why was unclear. I certainly don't have the answer as to why that is so...but I do have a few thoughts. Please bear in mind, these thoughts came from the perspective of a daughter. While I do not have any biological children of my own...I do have three wonderful stepchildren courtesy of the Hubs (as well as a menagerie of four legged children), and I treasure the relationship I have with them all. Moms mean many different things to their children...they are the one we turn to when we are hurt, either physically or emotionally, they are the one we turn to when we need advice, they are the one we turn to when we have something to celebrate or share, and they are the one we turn to for unconditional love...something no mother would ever deny their child, regardless of the circumstances. Please don't take my words to mean the relationship between a child and their father is any less meaningful or important (I myself was a complete daddy's girl), it is just in some way different (for lack of a better word). Father's tend to be the person in your life who, while you know they love you, would not hesitate to be the one to dole out the tough love when needed. While our relationship with each of our parents is special in it's own way, we still tend to rely on our moms when we need comfort...something they never fail to provide. Sadly, my mom has passed, but the comfort she always provided me will forever remain in my heart. I hope you have a wonderful and comforting relationship with your mom as well...and if you yourself are a mom, I hope you have a special relationship with your child.

There are still times I want to pick up the phone and call my mom. Especially when it involves my sons. I want to share good news concerning them and also the times they are sick and I get worried about them. Their good and bad days. She was the one I told everything to. I miss my mom and my dad.
